  2. Local Heroes

    One of the greatest of our local heroes was Maurice Reidy of Knocknavane, Ballymacelligott. He was a great strong man and the best stone thrower in the parish. The throwing of the 1½ cwt. was his hobby. The expert walker was Thomas Prendeville. He used to walk to fairs in Killarney and in Listowel without any difficulty. He walked it is said six miles in half an hour. His address was Rathanny, Tralee.
