- Near Grangemore is the Alth a lonely gorge through which the river Closach flows Along this river grows a whitethorn bush which is called Sgeach and Airrann. It is said that a lonely priest said mass in this hollow regularly. his name was Fr. Grier and he was captured and hanged in the place in the end. Hence the name Sgeach an Airrann
