  1. Long ago when my grandfather was a boy he was sent to Moylough to buy a pair of boots. It happened to be the 8th of November, the fair day. He stayed looking at bargains made in the fair until it was late.
    He made a short cut across Lakeview farm for home. He saw a light in the farm and came towards it. There indeed was a nice cottage. He knocked at the door, which was opened by an old woman.
    He asked was he going astray and she said he was. She invited him to stay for the night. When he went in there was a young boy inside whom she called Pat.
    She told him to go out into the garden and bring in a head if cabbage for the stranger's
