  1. In olden times people got married only in shrovetide which comes after Xmas Day. They got married very young in those times. The parents met and made the match, paid the fortune, and drew up the agreements which were usually done by some solicitor. They had large weddings and the bride usually went to the church with her father. In those days there were great horsemen, and all the men rode horses at the wedding. After the marriage the bride came home with her husband riding behind him on horseback. This way was called "Cúl-óg".
