- Long ago May-Day Customs were held in great reverence in this country. They are still pracitzed by some of the older people.
1) Putting branches of the rowan-tree over the Byre-doors as a protection against the animals inside getting sick.2) Neither borrowing or lending anything on this day.3) Strewing the door-steps with May-flowers on May Eve.4) Not letting milk out on a May Day.5) Decorating the May Altar in honour of Our Lady is one of the big customs.
