  1. The date (8th June) of Fr. Manus Sweeney's hanging comes wet every year in West Mayo.
If you be out late May night the fairies
will bring you and keep you for a year.
If you dirty the water Whit Sunday you will have no luck; you can't fish or bathe either.
If you wash your head with dew Good Friday morning you will never get a pain in your head.
If you cry on New Year's day you will have sorrow for all that year.
At twelve o'clock Xmas night all the animals can talk, and the donkey goes down on his knees.
At the same hour New Year's night the water in the river turns to wine.
If it rains on New Year's night everyone will have plenty for that year.
