- It is the sign of rain when the dog is eating grass. When there is a cap of fog on Mullaghanoe it's the sign of rain. When the sun goes down behind Mullaghanoe it's the sign of frost. At night-time when there is a black sky it's the sign of rain. A sign of fine weather is when the floors and walls get damp. A handful of March dust is as good as a handful of gold. If the western sky is red when the sun is sinking the next day will be fine. A rainbow in the morning is a shepherd's warning; a rainbow in the night is a shepherd's delight. When the ducks quack out on the farmyard and peacocks cry it's the sign of rain.(continues on next page)
