  1. There was a man whose name was Daniel Madden living within a mile of this school in Fauleens Co. Mayo who was noted for his strength. His height at the age of nineteenth was six feet four inches.
    At that age he attended a market in Charlestown where numerous sacks of oat were bought and sold. Daniel was standing at the scales helping his father weigh oats. A man standing near him asked him if he would help him and he said "yes".
    After being shown the sack he took it between his hands and placed it on the scales. When it was weighed it recorded five hundred weight. The man seeing the strength of the boy asked him would he carry the sack of oats to a store for one shilling.
