- Long long ago a robber lived about a mile north of Tallow, Co. Waterford. He had his den in Tallow Hill Wood. After many years he was captured and taken to Waterford jail. There he was sentenced to death. As he walked on the scaffold to meet his death a large gathering stood around and he cried out "Is there any man here from Tallow? Is there any man here from Tallow? If there is, let him come forth and I shall tell him where my treasure is laid". No one went forth, he cried out and said "My treasure is laid under the roots of a beech in Tallow Hill Wood".
