  1. Cromwell invaded this district in 1649 and camped in Woodbrook and field he camped in is since known as Cromwell's Garden and place where they ate their breakfast in known as Table Hill. He ravaged the church at Ardcarne, burnt the Abbey in Boyle and murdered the priests.
    The Pretender is supposed to have taken refuge in Drumline. He was discovered in this way. A girl in the house in which he was hiding was suffering from "King's Itch". The Pretender seeing this gave her some of the water in which he shaved each day to rub on the afflicted part. This cured her and she told the mistress who immediately exclaimed that the Pretender was in the house. However he escaped to a house some distance away.
