  1. A Local Song

Waft me back to dear old Ireland across the ocean blue

    I
Waft me back to dear old Ireland
    across the ocean blue
Bear on your mind my thought of her
    kind wishes fond and true
For tis now I am far from kith and kin
and from my home of prayer
On St. Patricks day in Ireland
the time when I was there.
    II
When I at home last Patricks day
    with comrades I’d be seen
    And in respects no doubt,
    I’d drown my shamrock green
For the little children of the land
    their emblems they do wear
On St Patricks day in Ireland
the time when I was there.
    III
But such may be the fate of me
    I neer’ may see again
The scenes along the Shannon side
    from Fortland to Clonmaan
Old Carrick town of high renown
    for it I would prepare
On St Patricks day in Ireland
the time when I was there.
