There is a townland named Cornagnoe about a half mile from Caherhurley school. This is a low valley or hollow and the people sometimes call it the valley of the nuts from cno - a nut. There lived some time ago in this valley a man named Tady Hawkins. He was a renowned step dancer. He was low of stature but a rather active, hardy man otherwise.
He attended all festive gatherings and got a hearty welcome from all. The door or table was placed on the floor for him and few could compete with him for step-dancing. He lived alone in a little cabin but always received the care and attention of the people in the valley. He must have died about 70 years ago. The remains of his mud cabin can still be seen.
