- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)In the year 1800, likewise thirty five,
That date I'll remember while I'm alive
I left Corragarry the place of my birth
That spot I'll still prize above all on this earth.
I straight took my way to fair Belfast town
Where I was apprenticed to one Mister Browne.
No fault of my master _ youth must have its fling.
I next took a notion to serve George, our King. In the eighty - ninth regiment of fame and renown
I became a young soldier to Guard England's Crown,
And for that fair nation we quickly set sail
And soon arrived there with a sweet pleasant gale
I learned my fencing and exercise soon
And then in the ranks I appeared in full bloom,
But my wise Creator soon stopped my career,
With a nod of affliction when no friend was near.
In scarlet fever so ill I did lie
That my comrades would say that young Dixon would die
Kind Providence favoured and did me restore
And now I am bound for the East Indian Shore,
Hope cheers my spirits whilst ploughing the main
That I'll live to see sweet Corragarry again.- Faisnéiseoir
