- St. Stephen's Day. - September 1938
In Clonmel the old custom of dressing up in St. Stephen's day is still held.
Before St. Stephen's day the various parties collect old rags. They also cut holly bushes and try to kill a wren to hang on the holly bush.
There parties are made up of men and boys and sometimes young girls.
They travel round from early in the morning to late at night.
They knock at the door and, if allowed, come into the house. However they are not allowed to come into the house they sing and dance outside the door or window.
The bigger parties generally have the best music. They sometimes wheel round gramaphones in prams quite often they have piano accordians. The children have drums and Christmas toys. They sing this song.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
