- A food now gone out of fashion was yellow meal stirabout at night. It was made from ground Indian corn and was partaken of with milk, generally buttermilk. This meal was partaken of as a supper.
People had three meals a day and worked a few hours before breakfast which often consisted of potatoes salt and sometimes butter milk.
Dinner consisted of potatoes again with butter or sometimes with bacon and cabbage.
Potatoes were often used again at night.
The table was mostly beside a wall three sides being occupied.
Easter was always associated with egg eating. Milk was used from tins which tinkers made.
