  2. In Penal Days.
    In penal days Mass was said in Aughrim. The Priest used to say Mass in one of the caves. There is still the trace of an old altar. One man used to keep guard while the Priest was saying Mass. When the soldiers were coming the Priest and people would hide in the cave.
