- The first football match played in Co. Cavan after the founding of the G.A.A. in 1884 was between Bailieboro Home Rulers, and Ballyconnell First Ulsters. The latter club was so called because it was the first club established in Ulster.
There was twenty one men on either side and the teams were picked from the (teams were) parishes of Killann and Kildallon.
The game was played at Cavan, which is about midway between the two towns.
