In a short time travellers on a side car pulled up at the inn door and dismounting from the car exchanged remarks with Mr. Brady about the weather. His ready conversation impressed them and when a few minutes in the shop they noticed he was still in the same position. They inquired of Mr. Lynch who he was.
"He's a scoundrel" said Mr Lynch "he owes me ten bob. He wont come in here till he pays his bill.
One of the men went to the door and asked him in for a drink and promised to pay the bill if he could please the landlord, please the company, please God and please the devil.
So Mr. Brady began:-
To please God commit no sin
To please the devil release him from his den
To please the company bring more wine
