    were used for defence in times of war.
    Fairies were supposed to dwell in them. They had a pass from Drumnalaragh fort to Shannow fort and they used to travell from one to the other every night. Lights have been often seen in Shannow fort. Music and dancing was often heard there also. The people of Drumicaneo fort attempted to level it, but it is said that the second morning they went out there were boards spread round on the clay for their coffins.
