   Palm
   Farmers put palm up in the stable, cow house and pig sty to bring a blessing on the stock.

   Holy Water
   On 1st May they sprinkled the flocks and crops with Easter Holy Water.
   On 1st May they used strike the cattle with a quicken gad when putting them out of the house after the Winter.

   The Old Graveyards There are three old graveyards not too far from Aughrim. Two are in Macreddin- about 2 1/2 miles from the village. The lower one is the nearer. It is in off the road from which a field divides it. this must be a very old one but there is no church. In the upper graveyard stands the old church of the parish which was the one used until the new one was
