- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)When two people are satisfied about the price of an animal they clap their hands together as a token that the bargin is made.
The "luck money" does not depend on the price of and animal but the seller gives back anything he likes.
When the beast is sold the buyer marks it with a "raddle." The mark may be a number of the person's initials. Sometimes the marking is done by daubing the animal's thigh with mud. Sometimes a bit of hair is clipped off the hip as a mark.
Some years ago a fair used to be in the townland of Rathsallagh. It was held in a field on the farm at present owned by Mrs Butterfield near the Dunlavin - Colbinstown road.
My father told me that people always looked forward to this fair because the was plenty of fun there.
It was chiefly a fair for mountain sheep. It discontinued about twenty years ago.
