- St. Martin was a miller. It is said that he was ground up in a mill, and anyone who threshes on St. Martin's day will be killed or the mill will go on fire.
- St. Brigid was living on the Curragh. One day she went to a rich farmer and asked him to give her a patch of grassland to feed a cow. He asked her how much she wanted. She said as much as her mantle would cover. She spread out her mantle and it covered a large tract of land which was called the Curragh. That is how the Curragh was formed.
