    The first three days of April are called the three borrowing days. Farmers usually commence sowing spring wheat about the the feast of St Brigid. The first Monday of the New Year is called Hansel Monday. If a person pays out money or asks for credit on that day it is said he will be paying money or asking the whole year afterwards.
    Old people say that Wednesdays and Fridays are the two lucky days for curing ailments. Good Friday is the luckiest day of all. People do Novenas on Good Friday for different ailments and are supposed to be cured. There is a day of the year called Cross day. It happens to be Whit Monday. If a child is born on Whit Monday, some terrible misfortune is supposed to befall it. There are days of the year supposed to be unlucky to plant or sow seeds. The first of January is unlucky to plant trees and flowers. Monday is a lucky day to plough or sow crops, Monday is called the plough man's day. There is an old saying, that the month of April borrows three days in March to skin the old cow.
    Friday is the lucky day for moving into a new house. The first three days of April are called Borrowing Days because they are borrowed from March
