When hearing bad news of another - God break all hard fortune before everyone.
When we see a person churning we say "God bless the work". We also take a part as it is and old custom. This was supposed to keep people from taking the butter by magic or witchcraft.
There are fields near Ferns called "The Butter Fields" as people of the neighbourhood remember them covered with lumps of matter like butter but which the people say was butter. John Nolan Askinamoe Ferns told the teacher that he saw it and that it remained on the fields for a couple of days.
Some people put hot coals under the churn also to prevent people from taking the butter. Stories are told of people having only one or two cows selling the butter to be got from seven or eight.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
