   In olden times a man named James Foley of Monglass was considered one of the best mowers in his time. He was able to mow over an acre in a day.
   A well known runner named Johnny Clince was considered the best here long ago. He was once challenged by a man from Davidstown. The race was held at the Leap and Clince won. Another noted athlete particularly in the long jump was a man named Walter Furlong of Dranagh. He was beaten in the hop-skip-and jump by a man named James Doyle of Ballinure.
   A celebrated walker here was a man named John Copeland. He used to walk to fairs in Wexford, Gorey, Taghmon. He carried with him several lengths of heavy sticks called "Colecans" which he sold at the fairs or markets, and were used for making handles of flails.
