    Local Fairs
Fairs are held in Bunclody once a month + twice in month of March. They are held in the streets as there is no fair "green"
When an animal is sold luck-money is given. It is called simply "luck" or "luck-penny". It is calculated at so much a head usually 3d an animal on sheep or pigs + 1/- a head on cattle. Parties show their agreement to a bargin by spitting on one hand each + then striking those hands together.
Animals are marked by putting mud on the flank or by clipping a bit of hair on the forehead or more commonly by marking initials or other private mark with"raddle" which the buyer usually carries in his pocket.
No horses are sold at fairs here. The nearest Horse Fair is Enniscorthy.
The principal fairs of the year here are the April + October fairs.
