- The Local Forge. There are four forges in this parish, S. Parle's, J. Parle's, J. Walshe's and H. Bowe's. The Parle's have been smiths for generations, descending from the Bryne's who were also smiths. Nearly all these forges are near crossroads, except Bowe's, and that is near a river.
The local forge belongs to Jack Keane but it is not in this parish. It has a square door-frame with a huge door in it. It has a slated roof.
There is one fireplace inside while there is another big one outside.
The inside fireplace is on a raised bank on which the smith keeps his tools.
There is a bellows and a trough of forge water behind the bank,
The bellows is made of wood on thin leather. The water is used for cooling iron and is a cure for warts. Some of the implements he used are, a sledge, two hammer two or three tongs, two or more cowl chisels, one or two drills,(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
