  1. More than eighty years ago there was one of the best starch factories in Ireland in Longford. It was situated at the lower end of Little Water St. All the workers both boys and girls used to go down by to it by Little water St., but the potatoes were carted by the load from the Connaught Road. Two houses still exist on the Connaught Road at which was the entrance of the factory. They still have the two arches of the large gate to bear this out.
