- In Olden times it was customary that the men should go out to their work in the morning before they eat their breakfast. Then about eight o clock they would be called to their breakfast, and that breakfast consisted of porridge and a noggin of butter-milk.
They would put the pot between their legs and eat away until they had enough eaten. Then after that there might be a small drop of tea handed round and a piece of pancake or a quarter of oaten-bread.
Then the dinner came on about twelve or half twelve.
They used to get a good share of bacon and cabbage and a good drink of butter-milk after it. They would get some tea in the evening about four o clock, and that was also good. There would be a good dish of rasp sent out to the field, and every man eat all he could.
