- The Famine which occurred in this country in the years 1946-47 swept away most of the Irish people but fortunately it did not affect this district very much.
This district was very thickly populated at that time and perhaps there were twice as many people there then as there are now.
Sites of houses are still to be seen that were then occupied and are now in ruins and in some cases only the track remains.
The blight that came on the potato crop in these terrible famine years(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
