- Sir Francis Hopkins was land of Middleton estate about seventy years ago. He was not a bad man, but his agents were always telling him lies about the tenants of the estate, and doing all in their power to get them evicted. He had very big rents on his tenants, and because of this a group of men conspired to shoot him one night.
