    Roinn Roinn Postáil
    This district has many historical associations. There were very brave chieftains living here long ago called the McGeoghegans, and the ruins of their castle are still to be seen. When the Fenian movement was on foot in Ireland, there was a branch of it in this district and a battle took place between a band of the Fenians and some English soldiers. A few weeks before the battle the Frenians were budy organising in the district. Then some informers gave information to the English and they made a surprise attack on the Fenians, and as they had no ammunition, the were defeated. When Cromwell was in Ireland he passed through this district and his soldiers killed many people.
