- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)The birds commonly found in my district are:- the blackbird, thrush, wren, magpie sparrow, swallow, crow, goldfinch, yellow hammer,
The swallows migrate to warmer countries, and before their departure they gather together on the telegraph wires, on walls, or on sheds and then fly away south. The older ones go first, and the young ones follow afterwards.
The robin builds in a bank or ditch, the blackbird and thrush in hedges, the sparrows in the eaves of houses, and the crows in very high trees. The swallows build in the roofs of sheds.
The weather can be judged by the behaviour of birds.
If the sea gull flies low and inland, if the curlews whistle, if the swallows come back early.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
