  2. About sixty years ago rush candles were the only ones used in this district.
    The rushes used were the common rushes that grow in the bogs. When the rushes were dry they were cut with a scythe and brought in. Then they were peeled. Grease was melted in the grisset and each rush was drawn through the the grease and left in a box
