Three fairs were held at Skryne long ago. One on St. Patrick's Day, another on the 20th June, and the third on the 12th Oct. The St. Patrick's Day fair and the 20th June fair were held near the "Steeple of Skryne and the horse fair on the 12th Oct was held in the hill of Skryne and the cattle fair on the same date was held in a field the other side of the priests house. The fair in Navan is held in a special fair place and sometimes it is held on the "Square". Tole is never paid. Money is given for luck on the cattle sold. It is called the "luckpenny". About half a crown is given. Whatever the buyer asks is given. The men spit on their hands and shake them. Cattles' ears are
