The Care of the Feet.
In former times the people wore no boots until they were at an advanced age. In fact most people never had the price of them, until they were able to earn it.
There was a certain old man who lived in Ballingarry, a very well know personage of the travelling profession. He never was known to wear boots, Summer or Winter, He worked a whole horse load of culm in his bare feet, only for a few pence.
He was often seen stirring a red hot fire with his toes.
The boots in former times were made by local Shoe-makers. One man named Grace lived in the village who earned his livelihood by Shoe-making. These were a much firmer and better made boot, than those manufactured by the machinery of to-day.
An old man named Patsey Brennan was a wonderful Shoe-maker. His height was only about three feet, and he was very lame. One foot was only a little stump, but(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
