  1. Long ago the Catholics schools used to be burned down. There was a man whose name was Mr Cahill he had a small school in Kicham Street. Mr Cahill used to be hunted from place to place. He had many pupils going to that school. After some time he went to the Christian Brothers in Waterford and became a Christian Brother. He returned to Thurles and opened the monastry where it now stands.

  2. There were not many old schools in the district. About a half a mile from my own house a man named Mulcahey taught school and lived there. Often times the used to teach school in old barns and in sheltry places they were never called hedge schools. The government long ago would not let the
