  1. When the first settlers arrived in this district they called the country around "Moyne".
The Irish name for Moyne is "Maigin" meaning a little plain or "level tract of land"
Moynard (in Irish Maighn Árd) is a townland in the parish and the nature of the country there is a high ridge or elevated land.
Killoran (in Irish Cill Ódhran) i.e the church of Owran.
The remains of the belfrey or tower is still to be seen but no one seems to have any definite or authentic knowledge as to what kind of church it was.
