Butter-making:
There were fickins of butter made. They collected the butter throughout the year. It used to be very firm and hard and three stone would often be in one Firkin. They took this to Kilcommon in an ass and cart and sold it to Cork buyers who were there. For a radious of eighteen miles around the place where it was made nobody ever ate a bit of the butter themselves. They had to make the rent for the landlord.
