- In the first half of the nineteenth centurey it was usual for the local marriages to take place in the houses but the custom was dying out during the last half. The bridegroom always carried his bride over the threshold of her new life.
The wedding-feast was held in the bride's home. "Straw Boys" usually visited the house where they were lavishly entertained. They were dressed with sugans of straw which were twisted around their bodies. When they had eaten and drunk their fill they played music and danced.
