- During the bad times two priests were on the run in North Tipperary. One of them was named Paul Higgins. Higgins resolved to recant. Before he parted from his friend they exchanged gifts- Higgins giving a snuff box to his friend.
He went to the Protestant Bishop and became parson in a parish in Co. Waterford, and ministered there for some years. When preaching one day, there was a violent thunderstorm. After a particularly vivid flash of lightning and a terrible peal of thunder Higgins cried out to the congregation as he fell on his knees,
"I am damned ye are all damned.. Go down on your knees and ask God to forgive you."
It appears he was reported to the Bishop who suspended him. He was now worse off than ever(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
