  1. Long ago old houses were thatched in this district. There was a bed in the kitchen. It was called a wad. The bed was at the side of a wall.
In some of the old houses the fire was in the centre of the floor. The chimneys were made of clay and wattles. The floors were made of yellow mud. Half doors were common in the district formerly. Long ago turf was used for the fires.
There was an old house situated near Old Pallas. It was made of mud. There was a hole in the roof and an old bucket on the hole for a chimney. The house was knocked down fourteen years ago.
