The following piece was supposed to be composed by Dawson a poet of Cullane Co. Limerick. It relates to Crowley a Fenian who fought and died in Kilclooney wood near Kildorrery in Co. Limerick on borders of Cork.
You may talk about McMahon obrave ODonoughue
Allen Larkin and O'Brien these hearts so true
That died in Manchester in days of old
And dear Captain Crowley we'll ne'er see you more.
In Kilclooney's lone wood where our brave heroes stood
To the world he now bid adieu
He struggled in vain to break slavery's chain
That hereo both loyal and true.
He fought all the day and kept a sharp eye
Not knowing the moment on the field he would die
Crowley got wounded by a ball in the leg
He jumped in the trench o he fought in the mud
    In Kilclooney's lone wood.
Neil Brown he rode down he though all [?] were right
When he fired on young Crowley the officer cried
Crowley looked on him with a scornful frown
Saying Freedom today or I'll die on the ground
    In Kilclooney's lone wood.
