- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)bargain by striking hands. They marked them by putting mud on their sticks, and drawing a stroke on the side of the animal. In those days people mark them with cattle brands which are sold in various colours. Some buyers who may not have the cattle brands put a cut of a scissors on them. When they were sold the head collar or halter which was on them was given with them to the buyer. The toll paid on the cattle was sixpence for cows, and two year olds, and fourpence for calves. The big fair was always held on 8th July once a year. The cattle bought in Ballingarry had to walk four miles to a station. This was very inconvenient to the buyers.
