- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)us be off. All through the countryside their merry voices re-echo, as they travel on with the decorated bush over their shoulders and in fancy costumes, for miles, until about four o'clock they return home and share the little proceeds which they spend royally on sweets, fruit and prehaps cigarettes.
On New year's morning, this old custom is practised by the inhabitants of this locality - A loaf of bread or cake is flung against the front door, whilst repeating the following words - " Anocht agus blian anocht" which would mean good luck and plenty for the coming year.
It is still believed by some old people that it is not lucky to be up after midnight on little Christmas night, and that the water is changed into wine after this hour.- Bailitheoir
