the fence and the Liss is a Gallán Still and on which are marks supposed to be those of human fingers.
It would seem that the place was of some importance in former times, as it still gives its name to the rather extensive Electoral Division of Liscleary.
It is said that when the Normans invaded Ireland, Liscleary fell into the hands and the Meades, who were a Norman family, and gave its name to the adjoining townland of Meadstown, built a castle in the place.
This so called castle is now pointed out as the old residence of Mr Walsh who now lives in a newlybuilt farm house adjoining.
It is said that the Meade family were influential in the place and appointed a Bishop in Liscleary, Dr John de Cunningham and the Normans seem to have held it until they were dispossessed of it
