  1. There is a house near the Ballynoe Road called the Hermitage. This house derives its name from the following story. A community of nine Carmelite nuns resided there for about two years. These nuns had fallen away from the rules of their order and went about like ordinary people still retaining their religious habits. It is said that received money for their upkeep from the U. S. A. They sold fruit and vegetables from the garden adjoining the house. After a time the parish priest discovered that these nuns were impostors and denounced them publicly and warned his parishioners not to recognise them as nuns.
