- Marriage customs in former days were different to what they are now. The marriage ceremony was sometimes performed in the house. All the friends of the bride and bridegroom were invited to the wedding and a very enjoyable day and night dancing, singing, etc was spent. The priest was paid by means of taking a hat around to collect money from the people. They counted some days unlucky for marriage. There is an old proverb about the unlucky days, Marry Monday for wealth, Tuesday for health, Wednesday the best day of all, Thursday for crosses, Friday for losses and Saturday no luck at all.
