- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)fifty year ago. Of these only one family carries on the business of their fathers. At the present day there are only four shoemakers in this town of Kanturk. This small number is caused by the increase in factory boots and shoes.
Leather was tanned in Kanturk, where the creamery is now, and is still known as "the tan yard", at Strand St, Kanturk.
Although at the present day, no grown up person however poor, goes without shoes, in the summer time nearly all the boys discard their boots and shoes.
In older times the water for the feet was thrown out after it had been used, for if it was kept indoors even overnight, the "good people" would come to the house.- Bailitheoir
