- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)is thought unlucky, and some years ago Monday, Wednesday and Friday were thought unlucky. When the people are married, and when they are coming home, an old boot is tied to the car, and rice is thrown upon them and it is supposed to be lucky.Match-making is a very old custom in the South of Ireland. Sometimes the parents of the boy and girl meet and make a bargain. They might give money and stock is also given.
About ten years ago there used to be a wedding feast in the house, and the neighbours would come in and dance and sing and drink all through the night. The "straw-boys" often came in, and they were dressed in queer clothes and they used to have a sheaf of corn over their heads so as to disguise themselves. Then they would sing and dance with the bride and they would kiss her. Sometimes their behaviour was good, but often they misbehaved themselves, and were very ugly.- Bailitheoir
